There is nowhere on earth like Bamburgh. Miles of unspoiled beaches, an awe-inspiring castle, rock pools, picture perfect architecture and some of the finest seafood restaurants in the country, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Eating and drinking
There is an array of both family friendly and fine dining in Bamburgh so you won’t be short of a good meal, whatever your tastes.
Beneath the apartment is The Potted Lobster – listed as #1 restaurant in Bamburgh on TripAdvisor, famed for its seafood, local Northumbrian fayre and friendly welcome. (Limited opening hours out of season so please check.)
There are also several good pubs and restaurants; The Mizen Head is an up market country restaurant serving seafood and bistro food – you can even grab yourself a cocktail. The Victoria Hotel, The Castle Inn and The Lord Crewe span Front Street from top to bottom offering a range of good pub food.
There are also two tea rooms – The Lady Crewe and The Copper Kettle, both on Front Street.
R. Carter‘s butcher is home to the famous Bamburgh Banger featured on Rick Stein’s Food Heroes. Their home made scotch eggs, the size of tennis balls, are delicious. Pick up a home made meal to eat back at the apartment or stock up for a picnic on the beach.
There are two small general stores;
The Bamburgh Castle shop
With the apartment block behind you cross straight over the road and walk down the road ahead with the walled garden on your left and the village green on your right. The shop is at the end of the wall on the left.
The other store is called The Pantry and is in the middle of Front Street – it also serves ice cream, sandwiches (the Craster Crab is lovely), local cheeses and produce and takeaway hot and cold drinks.
The nearest major supermarket is Co-op in Seahouses. In nearby Alnwick there is Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Aldi.
2 minutes walk from the apartment you will find a children’s play park, tennis courts and a large cricket pitch suitable for ball sports and games.
Bamburgh also enjoys an 18 hole cliff top golf course a short distance from the apartment.
The nearest free to use cashpoint is in Seahouses, 4 miles away. There is a Barclays Bank and also a cashpoint at the Co-op.
The nearest petrol station is beside the A1 at the Bamburgh turn off beside The Purdy Lodge. It also has a pay-to-use cashpoint. There is also a petrol station just off the A1 at Alnwick and also a Total in Seahouses.
